BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Two games against Purdue this season. Two record-setting performances.
The first time the teams met, Indiana beat Purdue by 37 points, its most lopsided road victory in series history.
Saturday, Will Sheehey got into the school record books. He made all nine of his field goals and scored a career-high 22 points off the bench to lead No. 2 Indiana to an 83-55 victory over the Boilermakers at Assembly Hall.
The previous record had been 8-of-8, by four IU players: Jared Jeffries, Matt Nover, Ricky Calloway and Mike Giomi.
The only negative for the Hoosiers (23-3, 11-2 Big Ten) was that Victor Oladipo went out with 46.7 seconds to play in the first half with an ankle injury and didn’t return. He sat on the IU bench in the second half and looked OK walking through the line after the game shaking hands with the Purdue players.
Cody Zeller had 19 points and nine rebounds for IU. Christian Watford, who scored the first eight points of the game, finished with 14. Jordan Hulls had 11.
Purdue (12-14, 5-8) was led by Terone Johnson and Anthony Johnson, each with 11.
Indiana led 19-8 early and led by double figures for the final 30 minutes.
Purdue’s A.J. Hammons, who scored 30 points the first time the teams played, was limited to six. His first basket didn’t come until 13:35 remained in the game.
