Favors Reacts To Possible Melo Trade

A trade six months in the making may have finally been consummated just a few days before the All-Star game. It’s being reported by the Bergen Record in New Jersey that the Nets and Denver Nuggets have a tentative deal in place that would send Carmelo Anthony, Chauncey Billups, Sheldon Williams, Melvin Ely and Renaldo Balkman to Jersey while Devin Harris, Derrick Favors, Troy Murphy, and Ben Uzoh would be shipped to Denver along with four first-round picks.

While the trade hinges on ‘Melo agreeing to a three-year, $65 million sign-and-extend deal with New Jersey, Nets’ rookie Derrick Favors had some things to say from All-Star Weekend in Los Angeles about the potential trade after word broke Thursday night that he may be on his way to Denver.

"Whatever happens, happens," Favors said. "I really want to be in New Jersey, play for that team. But, like I said, I can’t control it."

{AUTHOR_BOX}Favors told HOOPSWORLD earlier today he had also heard that an agreement to bring Carmelo to New Jersey was a done deal, and that he was apart of it. It’s reported that the Nuggets valued Favors’ youth and upside, which made the Nets offer the most compelling on the market and that thought wasn’t lost on the rookie.

"It’s pretty cool that they like me because of that," Favors said.

While his name has been in constant trade rumors since before the start of training camp, Favors said he has had no reassurances or conversations with the front office about his possible departure.

"It was overwhelming at first but [now], I’m pretty used to it," Favors said.

If the trade goes through – which, right now, is still a big "if" - the addition of Favors and Harris would give the Nuggets a formidable young core, while the Nets would have a huge star to build around in Anthony as the club prepares to move to Brooklyn in the next few years.
