Former Hornets coach dies of cancer
Former Charlotte Hornets coach Dick Harter died of cancer Monday night in his home in Hilton Head, S.C., according to the Portland Tribune.He was 81.Harter’s first job in the NBA was as an assistant coach with the Detroit Pistons in 1982. He also served as an assistant for the Indiana Pacers, New York Knicks, Portland Trail Blazers and Boston Celtics. Harter moved on to become the head coach of the expansion Hornets in 1998.Harter previously coached at the University of Oregon and led the Ducks to three NIT berths. He was named Pac-8 coach of the year in 1977.
