Coach Tom Thibodeau has agreed to a four-year contract extension with the Chicago Bulls, general manager Gar Forman said Monday.

“I’m biased, but I think Tom is the best coach in the NBA,” Forman said at the Berto Center as the team prepared to open training camp. “I watch his practice every day and his attention to detail is incredible.”

The Bulls previously had picked up Thibodeau’s option for the 2012-13 season, but talks to extend the deal had stalled over contract length and value. According to a Yahoo Sports report, Thibodeau’s new deal calls for a base of $17.5 million, with bonuses that could reach $20 million.

Said Thibodeau, “Obviously, I’m glad we got the contract done. I’m looking forward to the challenge ahead. My expectations remain the same.”

“I’m thankful to Jerry (Reinsdorf) and Gar and John (Paxson). I never doubted it would work out. I love being here.”
