John Calipari takes anger out on assistant

Kentucky coach John Calipari hasn’t been pleased with his freshmen-laden team lately as the youthful Wildcats dropped to No. 19 in USA TODAY Sports’ coaches poll and out of the AP poll completely.

With his team back in action on Saturday for the first time since back-to-back losses in a home game against Portland (an inferior opponent), Kentucky didn’t seem to have the resurgent start Calipari was hoping for.

In the midst of frustration, we all do things we don’t necessarily mean. That was the case when Calipari smacked assistant coach Orlando Antigua’s hand when he was busy shouting and trying to make a point.

Kentucky led 35-20 at halftime. This showing of frustration is just another sign that Calipari isn’t going to let up on his inexperienced squad and we’re seeing more and more why he called voters “goofballs” for picking his team as third best during preseason.

Kentucky, the defending national champion, started the season No. 3 in both rankings, but losses to Duke, Notre Dame and Baylor changed voters’ thinking.
