Pau Gasol will undergo a procedure to treat tendinosis in both knees Thursday, the Los Angeles Lakers announced Wednesday in a press release. Gasol will receive treatment known as the FAST Technique, in which a probe will be inserted into both of his knees to locate scar tissue.
The procedure is intended to use ultrasonic energy to locate and eliminate scar tissue while leaving healthy tissue undamaged, according to the release. A timetable for Gasol’s return will be determined after the treatment is completed.
Gasol, 32, missed 33 games for the Lakers during the 2012-13 season while batting various knee and foot injuries. He averaged 13.7 points, 8.6 rebounds and 4.1 assists a game during the year. The Lakers were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by the San Antonio Spurs.
