Derrick Gordon recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds to lead Western Kentucky to a remarkable 59-58 comeback victory over Mississippi Valley State on Tuesday as part of the NCAA tournament’s First Four. After the Delta Devils (21-13) led by 16 with 4:52 to play, the Hilltoppers (16-18) began their improbable push, scoring 15 unanswered points as part of a 17-1 run to tie the game with 1:14 to play. T.J. Price gave Western Kentucky its first lead of the game on a 3-point play with 33.8 left on the clock. The Hilltoppers finished the game on a 23-6 run. The win sets up a meeting with No. 1 Kentucky in the Round of 64’s South Regional for the Hilltoppers, who have now won seven straight games overall.
