Phoenix Suns center Marcin Gortat will not play for Poland in Eurobasket 2011 later this month due to insurance issues, the Arizona Republic reported Monday night.

The 6-11 Gortat would have been Poland’s most prominent player. He spent three-plus seasons backing up superstar Dwight Howard with the Orlando Magic before being traded in December to the Phoenix Suns, where he became the starter and averaged 13.0 points, 9.3 rebounds and 1.3 blocks in 55 games.

Poland is in Group A with Spain, Lithuania, Turkey, Britain and a qualifier. It placed ninth in Eurobasket 2009.
