Baylor women top Notre Dame in final
Brittney Griner had 26 points and 13 rebounds as the Baylor women’s basketball team completed its perfect season by posting an 80-61 victory over Notre Dame in the NCAA women’s tournament final on Tuesday.
Odyssey Sims added 19 points for the Lady Bears (40-0), who handed the Fighting Irish (35-4) their second straight loss in the tournament final. They dropped a 76-70 decision to Texas A&M last year.
Big East player of the year Skylar Diggins led Notre Dame with 20 points and also had two steals.
Baylor shot 50 percent from the field (29-for-58), while the Fighting Irish made just 22 of 62 shots (35.5 percent).
The Lady Bears became the seventh women’s team to finish a season undefeated.
