Grizzlies, Raptors, Pistons Agree to Trade

The Memphis Grizzlies, Toronto Raptors and Detroit Pistons have agreed to a blockbuster trade that involves six players, according to several reports. While the official trade hasn’t been announced, it sounds like the Raptors will acquire Rudy Gay and Hamed Haddadi, the Grizzlies will acquire Ed Davis, Tayshaun Prince and Austin Daye, and the Pistons will acquire Jose Calderon.
The Grizzlies and Raptors had discussed a number of scenarios, with the Dallas Mavericks and Boston Celtics also mentioned as potential third teams, but they ultimately decided to do the deal with the Pistons. The Grizzlies wanted to acquire a veteran small forward to replace Gay so Detroit made the most sense. Memphis acquired Prince to help keep the team in contention this season.
Memphis had been exploring trade scenarios involving Gay for quite some time and it seemed that a trade involving the small forward was inevitable either before the deadline on Feb. 21 or before the start of next season. The Raptors have been expressing interest in Gay for several years so it’s no surprise that they were the team to land him.
The deal will be finalized once the three teams complete a trade call with the league office at 7 p.m. ET.
