Hall of Famer McCauley dies at age 83

Hall of Fame forward Ed McCauley, known for being involved in the trade that sent Bill Russell to the Boston Celtics, has died at age 83.McCauley fashioned a sensational NBA career, making seven All-Star teams – six with the Celtics. But his biggest claim to fame may be when he was shipped, along with future Hall of Famer Cliff Hagan, to the St. Louis Hawks for the rights to Russell back in 1956.The Celtics dominated the league with Russell in the fold, capturing 11 NBA titles.McCauley went on to win a championship himself, leading the Hawks past Russell’s Celtics in 1958.The 6-foot-8 superstar, nicknamed “Easy Ed”, averaged 17.5 points for his career and was the MVP of the inaugural All-Star Game in 1951.He later coached the Hawks for two seasons, leading them to consecutive playoff appearances during his tenure.
