Miami Heat forward Mike Miller is expected to miss up to eight weeks while recovering from hernia surgery.

Miller, in his second season with the Heat, suffered numerous injuries last season, including a right broken thumb, shoulder issues and a left thumb injury that required offseason surgery.

Miller, the fifth pick in 2000 by Orlando, has averaged 13.2 points, 5.1 rebounds and 40 percent 3-point shooting for his career.

Thursday was the first day players were allowed back at team facilities, with a new collective bargaining agreement moving closer to completion.
