The Miami HEAT signed shot-blocking forward Jarvis Varnado to a 10-day contract after he cleared waivers on Tuesday, league sources told Yahoo! Sports. The Boston Celtics waived Varnado on Jan. 6 to keep his contract from becoming fully guaranteed.

Varnado had played sparsely in five games for the Celtics after a call up from Sioux Falls of the D-League.

Varnado, 24, was a second-round pick of Miami in 2010, and has played overseas in Italy and Israel over the past two seasons. The HEAT released him late in training camp in September, and he joined Sioux Falls, where he had averaged 14 points, 10 rebounds and 3.9 blocks in 10 games this season.
