The New Orleans Hornets waived backup forward Dominic McGuire on Friday after he played in nine games.  McGuire, 6 feet 9, 235 pounds, averaged 2.1 points, 3.1 rebounds in 16 minutes per game.

The Hornets signed McGuire on Dec. 16 as a free agent after he was waived by the Toronto Raptors to bring more physical play, especially on defense. The Hornets’ roster now stands at 13.

Hornets Coach Monty Williams said they decided to waive McGuire because his minutes was going to decrease significantly now that shooting guard Eric Gordon has returned. Williams also said they wanted more flexibility at the forward position because they could be looking at bringing in another player to provide help.
