How Serious Is Brook Lopez’s Injury?
Brook Lopez’s right foot has become a source of endless stress and curiosity for anyone following the Nets and, for that matter, anyone employed by them. Their entire season could hinge on the health of his fifth metatarsal — the bone that fractured last December and knocked him out for nearly the entire 2011-12 season.
When Lopez stumbled and limped on that same right foot Wednesday night in Boston, alarm bells went off. Fans understandably feared the worst, and the team’s report on Thursday — which classified the injury as a mild sprain — did little to calm those fears.
In the statement, (Riley) Williams described the current injury as a ligament sprain and said that the area of the previous fracture appeared “unremarkable” on X-rays. Lopez will be re-evaluated on Monday, after sitting out the Nets’ games in Orlando and Miami this weekend.
