Ice cream giant apologize to Lin for flavor
Ice cream giants Ben & Jerry’s have apologized for their ice cream flavor “Taste the Lin-Sanity”, which featured bits of fortune cookies in frozen yogurt. The special flavor was in tribute to New York Knicks guard Jeremy Lin.”We offer a heartfelt apology if anyone was offended by our handmade Lin-Sanity flavor,” Ben & Jerry’s said in a statement. The company, which was selling the honorary flavor in Boston’s Harvard Square, has since replaced the fortune cookie with honey-swirl while also offering special Lin waffles cones. Lin, who has shot to stardom with the Knicks in recent weeks, played his college basketball with the Harvard Crimson.”We are proud and honored to have Jeremy Lin hail from one of our fine, local universities and we are huge sports fans,” Ben & Jerry’s said in the news release. “Our intention was to create a flavor to honor Jeremy Lin’s accomplishments and his meteoric rise in the NBA, and recognize that he was a local Harvard graduate. “We try (to) demonstrate our commitment as a Boston-based, valued-led business and if we failed in this instance we offer our sincere apologies.”
