Illinios is expected to announce the firing of men’s basketball coach Bruce Weber on Friday.

The school called a news conference for noon ET as which time Weber is expected to be dismissed.

ESPN reported Friday that Weber told one of its reporters that he had been fired.

The Illini lost to Iowa 64-61 in the first round of the Big Ten tournament on Thursday and will miss the NCAAs for the third time in four seasons.

Weber compiled a 210-101 record in nine seasons at Illinois, enjoying his greatest success in his first two years.

The Illini advanced to the Sweet 16 in Weber’s first season and lost to North Carolina in the NCAA title game in 2005.

Weber had previously coached at Southern Illinois before replacing current Kansas coach Bill Self at Illinois.
