It’s been a good year for Indiana hoops fans, as the Hoosiers have remained at No. 1 in the polls since the start of the season and are a favorite to win the Big Ten Conference behind fifth-year coach Tom Crean and NBA prospect Cody Zeller.

And one fan with some eccentric Christmas spirit has taken his passion for Indiana basketball to another level.

Actually, he’s taken it to a $10,000 level.

The Girardots of Fort Wayne, Ind., have garnered national attention for their Christmas lights set-up this year that they say cost $10,000 to make.

Missy and Kris Girardot and their children are die-hard Indiana fans. They’re also die-hard Christmas fans. Add those two together and you get a Christmas lights show that would have warmed Bob Knight’s heart.

To commemorate the school’s epic win that made last December oh-so-special, a 73-72 victory over Kentucky off a Christian Watford buzzer-beating three-pointer, the family decided to include in their Indiana lights shrine the sound of that game in the background. Their display also includes a huge IU logo in lights accompanied by the sound of IU’s fight song.

The Girardots put their display on YouTube and it’s become a viral sensation. The display took the family five weekends to set up and they spend close to eight hours a day working on it, they told WANE in Fort Wayne.

By now, it’s obvious fans do some crazy things to show support for their teams. And we all have had neighbors who are a little extra jolly with their Christmas lights display. But the revelation is the mind-boggling $10,000 spent.

Busted Coverage broke it down and the family had 14,000 lights total and noted that it takes 16 hours to sync the music with the lights. Now that’s dedication.
