Is Pat Riley Done Coaching?
Q: I don’t believe the coaching issue “has been resolved” as (Pat) Riley said. Coaches under contract get fired all of the time. Rather, I think the amount of money the Heat would have to eat if Spo (Erik Spoelstra) were fired is just the cost of eliminating a potential distraction this year. Regardless, it’s great to see Spo rewarded for his hard work. — David.
A (Ira Winderman): You are correct about it not necessarily creating stability. Nonetheless, it was the right thing to do. The thing is that while Erik might find himself pushed aside if the Heat fail to win a championship, he would be scooped by one of the many team executives elsewhere who privately have praised his work. The sense I get from Riley after listening to him Friday, though, is that he is done coaching.
