JaVale McGee does a very JaVale McGee thing

The world is still not ready for JaVale McGee. Or at least, the NBA doesn’t understand the freakish Denver Nuggets center yet. He’s capable of making plays that nobody else in the league can even dream of, but they often come at the expense of his team. Here, he catches a short floater by Golden State Warriors forward Carl Landry at its apex. He doesn’t just block it. He catches the ball and brings it down like a rebound. And Landry is 6-foot-9, so it’s not like McGee was blocking a Nate Robinson-sized shot.
Unfortunately, the block was ruled a goaltend. This tends to happen a lot with McGee. It looked questionable in this case. JaVale caught the ball as it reached its peak. Basically a coin flip. Still, McGee’s limitless athleticism looks to be one of the most exciting parts of the NBA Playoffs, something that could impact a game or a series but is always guaranteed to provide a few highlights.… [For more on JaVale McGee does a very JaVale McGee thing, click here.]
