Jay Bilas apologizes for profane tweet

My morning routine is always the same: wake up to an alarm, struggle to remember what day it is, reach over to my phone and check Twitter. If you think the ringing alarm is the worst part of this process, you clearly don’t follow Jay Bilas on Twitter.
Most mornings around 5 a.m., the ESPN basketball analyst sends out a tweet with a Young Jeezy lyric, ostensibly to demonstrate how trill he is but really to rub it in your face that he’s up earlier than you. Rather than quoth the bard from memory, Bilas apparently cuts and pastes the lyrics from websites. That’s how how he got into a mess Thursday morning.
His daily “gotta go work” tweet was from Jeezy’s song Vacation. It happened to include a profanity and a racial epithet common in hip-hop lyrics. Bilas forgot to scrub the tweet of the bad words and sent out the following message (we’ve blacked out the offending parts):
Bilas quickly deleted the tweet and apologized. “My humble apologies,” he wrote. “Send was hit before editing was complete. I really gotta go to work.”
And that’s the way to quickly diffuse a Twitter bomb. Acknowledgment, deletion, contrition. Take heed, Lolo Jones.
