Northwestern’s chances of making the NCAA tournament this season took a bit of a hit Friday afternoon.
The team announced it has suspended junior guard JerShon Cobb has been suspended for the upcoming 2012-13 men’s basketball season due to violations of team policy. Cobb remains enrolled in classes and “continues to be a part of the Wildcats’ basketball program,” the school said.
“There are standards that each student-athlete is expected to uphold,” Northwestern coach Bill Carmody said in a statement. “JerShon has our complete support as he works to fulfill those expectations and we look forward to having him rejoin the program in a full capacity in the future.”
Last season, Cobb was the team’s fifth-leading scorer, averaging 7.1 points a game while appearing in 21 games (missing 12 games due to an injury).
Cobb still has two years of eligibility remaining.
