Kings Coaching Job is Finally Appealing?
While there are several reasons to recommend coach Keith Smart, the timing of the Kings’ decision to pick up his option for next season is odd – and totally premature.
Smart took over Jan. 5. This is March 6. That is a grand total of eight weeks. Why not wait until the end of the season before deciding whether to maintain the status quo or to pursue one of the highly regarded available veteran coaches – Phil Jackson, Jerry Sloan and Jeff Van Gundy, among others?
Given the team’s young talent and salary cap flexibility and the excellent upcoming NBA draft – not to mention an apparent resolution of the arena quandary – the Kings’ coaching job has become very appealing.
