The Sacramento Kings have pulled their offer to free agent small forward Andre Iguodala, according to a person with knowledge of the decision.
After making a four-year offer that the person said was slightly lower than the four-year, $56 million figure first reported by Yahoo! Sports, the Kings will now group and decide the next move in their rebuilding efforts. The person spoke to USA TODAY Sports on the condition of anonymity because of the private nature of the situation.
With the team now under new ownership and being run by new general manager and former Denver Nuggets executive Pete D’Alessandro, Iguodala – who was traded to the Nuggets last season after spending his first eight seasons in Philadelphia – became their top target after the New Orleans Pelicans came hard for Kings restricted free agent Tyreke Evans.
With Evans likely to sign the Pelicans’ four-year, $44 million offer sheet, the Kings had deliberated on whether they would match but opted to pursue Iguodala even more intently instead. It remains possible that they could reverse course and make Evans the priority yet again, but their next step has yet to be decided.
