INDIANAPOLIS — Hold off on ruling Los Angeles Lakers All-Star guard Kobe Bryant out for tonight’s game against the Indiana Pacers.
Bryant has gone from being “out indefinitely” with a left ankle sprain to now being a game-time decision.
“He’s getting treatment,” Lakers coach Mike D’Antoni said after their shootaround at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. “It’ll get better everyday and then we’ll see. When he can go he’ll go … He’s pretty remarkable on how he recovers.”
The Lakers said Wednesday that Bryant is “out indefinitely” after he suffered the ankle injury while coming down on former Pacer Dahntay Jones’ foot in the final seconds of their loss at Atlanta that night.
The NBA announced Thursday that a foul should have been called on Jones on the play.
The Pacers are in the mind frame that Bryant will play tonight.
“He, more than anybody in the league, can overcome injuries and become himself,” Pacers coach Frank Vogel said after their shootaround this morning. “So we’re expecting a full strength Kobe and that’s how we’re preparing.”
Jodie Meeks will start at shooting guard if Bryant does not play.
