Lakers to Land Dwight Howard
According to ESPNLosAngeles.com, Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard will be traded to the L.A. Lakers in a four-team deal also involving the Philadelphia 76ers and Denver Nuggets.
In the rumored deal, the Lakers will receive Howard and send out only Andrew Bynum, despite rumors earlier in the day that Pau Gasol could be involved in the trade, as well. Bynum will head to Philadelphia, along with Magic guard Jason Richardson, while Andre Iguodala will head to Denver. Orlando will end up with Arron Afflalo and Al Harrington from Denver, Nikola Vucevic and possibly Moe Harkless from Philadelphia, and a first-round draft pick from each of the three other teams involved in the deal.
It’s a surprisingly good deal for everyone involved; the benefit to L.A. is no mystery, Denver upgrades from two good players to one very good player, Philadelphia gets a franchise center, filling their biggest area of need, and Orlando ends up with tons of first-round picks and good young players while unloading Richardson’s deal.
This has been a long and drawn-out process that finally appears to be over, and you can be sure that HOOPSWORLD will be all over the deal once it becomes official with in-depth analysis from the viewpoints of all the teams involved. Stay tuned for the latest on the biggest trade of the summer. There will be more to come.
