James, Wade honor school shooting victims

LeBron James made it very clear Friday on Twitter that the elementary school shooting in Newtown, Conn., deeply disturbed him. And how could you blame him after the tragic events resulted in 27 dead, including 20 children?
As James noted in his tweets, he has two kids of his own currently in elementary school.
On Saturday night, James got back to work as his Miami Heat routed the Washington Wizards 102-72. Before the game, though, something more meaningful happened as there was a moment of silence to honor the victims in Newtown. And the way James and Dwyane Wade figured, if that was going to happen, then they wanted their kids by their side.
“Basketball, this is nothing,” James said, via The Associated Press. “These games are nothing compared to when you have a tragedy like that. It sucks that sometimes you need a tragedy to put things back in perspective, to appreciate what you have. But it does that to people.
“It’s unfortunate that you have to have something like that to understand what’s really important and some things that aren’t important at all. Family is the No. 1 important thing in life.”
Ain’t that the truth.
James, like Kevin Durant the night before, also paid tribute to the victims on his shoes.
I saw one Facebook user comment on our post that Durant should go one step further and auction off his shoes to donate the money to those families who have to deal with this tragedy.
It sounds like a great idea, and hopefully James and Durant both will consider doing it.
