This time, the University of Louisville didn’t need overtime.

The sixth-ranked Cardinals rode a wave of emotion during their senior day recognitions en route to a 73-57 win over Notre Dame Saturday in the KFC Yum! Center. The Cards claimed a share of the Big East title with Georgetown and Marquette and will be the No. 2 seed in the league tournament.

Louisville (26-5, 14-4 Big East) won its seventh consecutive game to close out the regular season. The last time they lost? The 104-101 five overtime defeat at Notre Dame.

In fact, in five of the last six meetings between the Cards and Irish entering Saturday’s contest, the games went to overtime.

Gorgui Dieng, who likely played his final game for Louisville, made sure to finish the Irish off in regulation this time. Dieng had game highs with 20 points and 11 rebounds. He’ll enter the NBA draft at the end of the season and could stay if he’s considered a first round pick.

Senior guard Peyton Siva scored 13 points including three 3-pointers, and had five assists in his final home game.
