Love loses pro beach volleyball debut
Kevin Love is probably better off sticking to basketball – whenever the NBA resumes, of course.
The Minnesota Timberwolves All-Star forward lost in straight sets Thursday in his first foray into professional beach volleyball.
Love teamed with pro Hans Stolfus in the Manhattan Beach Open, but got an unfavorable draw against the tournament’s No. 1 seeded team of Sean Scott and John Hyden. Love’s team lost 21-16, 21-15.
“Obviously getting beat is never fun, but being competitive, playing against the best team in the country, a team that hasn’t lost all summer, was a lot of fun,” Love said.
The 6-foot-10 Love didn’t play much volleyball growing up and said he practiced about a dozen times leading up to the tournament. But he relished the experience.
“It’s an excuse to get on the beach and near the ocean,” he said.
