Magic GM says Howard’s agent can seek trade
The Orlando Magic say they have not filed tampering charges after franchise center Dwight Howard reportedly spoke with the Nets regarding a possible move to New Jersey.Magic general manager Otis Smith says he gave Howard’s agent, Dan Fegan, permission to seek out a trade with three teams, including the Nets.Fegan confirmed the news to ESPN, issuing a statement which stated that tampering doesn’t apply once a team grants the player permission to speak with other organizations.Fegan went on to say that he and his client have spoken to the Nets by phone but no face-to-face contact has been made to this point. That conflicts with multiple reports suggesting the two sides have already made contact in person. The Magic haven’t decided if they will ultimately put in a tampering claim.Howard is in the final year of his contract and will become a free agent at season’s end. The Magic are said to be shopping the perennial All-Star in order to ensure they don’t lose him for nothing next offseason.
