Magic to Start Season Short-handed?

oint guard Ish Smith and rookie forward Maurice Harkless will miss the Magic’s training camp and the early portion of the regular season while they recover from off-season surgeries.

Forward Al Harrington, recovering from knee surgery, is expected to miss at least part of camp if he participates at all.

Smith and Harkless are not expected to return until mid-November, missing some regular-season games.

Harkless, a Philadelphia 76ers’ draft pick acquired in the Dwight Howard trade, had surgery to repair a sports hernia in mid-August.

Smith, a late addition to the Magic roster last season and re-signed this summer, underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder in late July.
