Marquis Teague Says He Can Shoot Too

Marquis Teague was the starting point guard on the NCAA Champion Kentucky Wildcats this year and joins a slew of teammates in this year’s draft. As a true point guard in a class with few true point guards to choose from, Teague is drawing a lot of interest.
“I have been getting a lot of good feedback and a lot of teams like me and are interested,” said Teague. “My agent has talked to a lot of teams (including) Cleveland, Phoenix, Atlanta, Pacers, Philly, and Miami. I (have already) interviewed with Miami, Philly, Brooklyn Nets, and the Milwaukee Bucks.”
Teague’s older brother Jeff was drafted three years ago by Atlanta and with so many Kentucky players in the draft, the younger Teague is getting plenty of advice about the process.
“My brother, I live in the same house with him so we talk all the time about what is going to happen,” confirmed Teague.
“We all talk about the workouts and what is going to happen so we can prepare. We call our other teammates who did a workout already to ask them what it is like so you can prepare and know what to expect.”
However, the best advice Teague has received so far may be from his agent.
“Just dress nice and answer honestly because they are going to find out anyway. They do great background checks on you.”
Despite his championship pedigree, Teague expects to be drafted somewhere in the bottom half of the first round. His strong point guard skills and NBA-level quickness are being offset by an inconsistent jump shot and a tendency to unnecessarily force passes. His decision-making should get better with time, but Teague is making sure teams know his jump shot has already improved.
“I can knock down shots,” said Teague. “That’s what I have been working on all summer. Since I have been starting these workouts, I have been shooting the ball at a pretty high level. They just want to see consistency from you from the outside and in all my workouts I am trying to stay vocal as much as I can.
“This is your job now, you can’t play around with this.”
A young vocal leader with some NBA-level skills already apparent, the 19-year-old Teague has the upside that teams look for and should be a quality first-round pick in this year’s draft.
