Mavericks F Odom considered taking year off
Dallas Mavericks forward Lamar Odom told ESPN that he had been considering taking a year off from basketball following the NBA lockout – even before he asked for a trade from the Los Angeles Lakers this winter.Odom felt like walking away from basketball this summer following the murder of his 24-year-old cousin and after being involved in a fatal car accident, in which the car he was riding in struck a motorcycle and killed a pedestrian. Odom and wife Khloe Kardashian, who have a reality series on E!, discussed his future and decided that he should continue to play this season. Odom was traded from the Los Angeles Lakers to the Mavericks this offseason after he was involved in a deal with the NBA-owned New Orleans Hornets for point guard Chris Paul. The league blocked the trade, leaving Odom with hurt feelings and wanting out of Los Angeles. He’s averaging 6.8 points and five rebounds off the bench this season. Dallas faces the Lakers on Monday.
