But usually, Dallas adjusts and still manages to get (Dirk) Nowitzki touches and shots. On this night, Nowitzki got just two third-quarter field goal attempts after shooting 9-of-11 in the first half. Nowitzki and Jason Terry specifically mentioned the absence of injured point guard Jason Kidd as being a major impact.

Another way to look at it is, even though they didn’t mention him by name, Nowitzki and Terry weren’t pleased with the lack of adjustment by Roddy Beaubois. Or, for that matter, Delonte West.

“Without Kidd out there directing the ball, it’s hard,” said Nowitzki, who didn’t make a second-half field goal until 5:29 remained in the game. “And then finally in the fourth quarter I just ran to the ball, wherever it was, just basically (said), ‘Give it to me.’ I just decided to run to the ball every time down.”

Terry was even more harsh when asked if he was at least encouraged to see Nowitzki get off to a hot start.
