The Miami HEAT clinched the 2013 NBA Championship with a 95-88 win over the San Antonio Spurs in the decisive Game 7.
The series was back and forth through the first six games, with the losing team responding the following contest. However, the HEAT broke that trend and successfully defended their championship with their Game 7 victory.
LeBron James led all scorers with 37 points, including four straight in the final 27 seconds. He also had 12 rebounds.
Dwyane Wade, whose performance throughout the series drew a lot of criticism, also came up big with 23 points and 10 rebounds.
“(It took) everything,” Wade said afterwards. “It took everything we had as a team. Credit to the San Antonio spurs, unbelievable team and franchise. This was the hardest searies we ever had to play. We’re a resilient team. We did whatever it took.”
James was named the Bill Russel NBA Finals Most Valuable Player for the second-straight year after averaging 25 points and nearly 11 rebounds and seven assists.
The Spurs were led by Tim Duncan’s 24 points, 12 rebounds and four steals. Kawhi Leonard had a double-double of his own with 19 points and 16 rebounds and Manu Ginobili was solid with 18 points, three rebounds and five assists, but Tony Parker and Danny Green shot a combined 4-24 from the field.
