Michigan State Deserving of #1 Seed?

With Big 12 regular-season champ Kansas bowing out of its conference tournament in the semifinals, the top NCAA Tournament seed that had been ceded to the Jayhawks for weeks figures to be in play.

The Spartans (26-7) should get every consideration for that position.

In four of the past five years, the team that won the regular-season championship of the No. 1 RPI conference earned a top seed. This year, that’s the Big Ten and MSU shared the league title with Michigan and Ohio State. Michigan State owns an 8-5 record against the RPI top 25, 10-5 against the top 100, compared to 5-4, 11-5 for Kansas. MSU’s top-25 wins total is the most of any team; the winner between Ohio State and Michigan in the second semifinal will have six.
