Michigan State freshman Branden Dawson was lost for the season after tearing an ACL in his left knee in Sunday’s home loss to Ohio State.

Dawson was injured midway through the opening half with the Spartans holding a 24-9 lead.

He underwent an MRI exam during that game that revealed the severity of the injury, a team spokesman said.

The 6-foot-6 Dawson averaged 8.5 points and 4.6 rebounds for Michigan State, which wound up in a three-way tie for the Big Ten Conference regular-season title.
