There’s a growing controversy emerging from Saturday’s Michigan-Indiana game that saw the Hoosiers win by eight and eventually re-claim the No. 1 ranking Monday.
With about three minutes left in the game, Michigan trailed 67-60 when Tim Hardaway Jr. hit a three-pointer. As the shot was in flight, Glenn Robinson III and Christian Watford got tangled up. Once the shot fell through, Robinson yanked his arm away from Watford, but his hand hit an unsuspecting Jordan Hulls on the left side of the face. Hulls went to a knee, but stayed in the game. There was no whistle on the play.
Robinson tweeted Monday: “Just want to make it CLEAR that i did not purposely punch Hulls in the face, my arm was pushed causing the incident.”
Michigan coach John Beilein is confident it was not intentional.
“It looks to me like he is pulling his arm away from (Christian) Watford, he’s heading up court and unfortunately Jordy (Hulls) is in the way and I’m glad Jordy’s not hurt,” Beilein said. “But they reviewed it during the game as well. Believe me, if there was anything intentional there, we would deal with it. But right now it looks (like) accidental contact.”
Beilein said he spoke with the supervisor of officials about the play, but he hasn’t heard from the Big Ten.
