Milwaukee Bucks general manager John Hammond has agreed to a three-year extension worth approximately $5.5 million combined, according to a person with knowledge of the situation.

The person told USA TODAY Sports on the condition of anonymity because the team does not disclose financial terms. The deal comes on the heels of the Bucks’ coaching change on Jan. 8, with Scott Skiles leaving and assistant Jim Boylan taking over. Milwaukee has won six of its last eight games and is currently seventh in the Eastern Conference at 22-18.

Hammond, a former assistant general manager and assistant coach of the Detroit Pistons who joined the Bucks as general manager in 2008, was in the last year of his deal with Milwaukee. He was the NBA executive of the year for the 2009-10 season (the Bucks went 46-36 and fell in seven games to Atlanta in the first round of the playoffs). The deal’s completion was first reported by the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.
