MSU beats Arizona for 2K Sports Classic title
Arnett Moultrie celebrated his 21st birthday Friday with 19 points and 10 rebounds, and Mississippi State won the 2K Sports Classic benefiting Coaches vs. Cancer with a 67-57 victory over No. 16 Arizona at Madison Square Garden.The Bulldogs (4-1), who defeated No. 18 Texas A&M in the semifinals, scored the first seven points and closed the game with a 13-4 run as Mississippi State never trailed in the two games against ranked teams.Moultrie, a junior forward who sat out last season after transferring from Texas-El Paso, scored double figures for the third time in five games this season and finished with his third double-double of the season.The Bulldogs won their 18th tournament in school history – the last was the 2000 Bank One Fiesta Bowl Classic, also a victory over Arizona for the title.Moultrie scored nine points in the first six minutes to help the Bulldogs build a 16-9 lead. Moultrie then picked up his second foul and sat out the rest of the first half.Solomon Hill led Arizona (4-1) with 12 points.
