Laker Trouble Mounts; Gasol, Howard Injured

The Los Angeles Lakers announced that an MRI revealed that center Dwight Howard has a torn labrum in his right shoulder and is out indefinitely. Sources close to the team say he will be out at least a week.

Howard tied a career high with 26 rebounds and added 14 points and four blocks in 41 minutes of playing time despite the injury, but he had his shoulder wrapped heavily in ice after the game. Howard originally hurt the shoulder in the second half of the Lakers’ 107-102 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers on Friday after getting tangled up with Clippers forward Caron Butler.

Forward Pau Gasol also received bad news after being hit in the nose during last night’s 112-105 loss to the Denver Nuggets, which turns out that he did sustain a concussion which will also keep Gasol out indefinitely.

Neither Howard or Gasol will travel with the team on their road trip to Houston and San Antonio. Howard is at risk to also miss Friday’s highly-touted matchup with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Reserve center Jordan Hill also sustained a hip injury in last night’s Denver loss and will be examined later today.
