PADUCAH, Ky. (AP) — Murray State University basketball player Zaveral “Zay” Jackson has accepted a plea deal to charges of two charges of wanton endangerment.
The Paducah Sun reported that Jackson, 20, from Hammond, La., agreed to the deal Monday in McCracken County.
Under the deal, Jackson will serve 60 days, including 11 days credit for time served. He has 49 days to serve and three years of supervised probation.
Jackson was charged with second-degree assault and first-degree wanton endangerment after an incident Sept. 10 in the parking lot of a Walmart in Murray, Ky.
Police say he hit a man with his car after an argument.
Jackson originally pleaded guilty to first-degree wanton endangerment after facing two counts of second-degree assault. A judge said a 30-day jail sentence was lenient. Jackson withdrew the plea.
Jackson averaged 4.9 points last season for the Racers as a freshman reserve. He was handed a season-long suspension by the school in October in the wake of the September incident.
