Rodney Purvis throws down dunk of the year

RALEIGH, N.C. — Thousands of jaws dropped in PNC Arena near the end of the first half of Saturday’s game between Miami (Fla.) and North Carolina State.

With 2:40 left in the first half, C.J. Leslie attempted a jumper from just inside the three-point line in front of Miami’s bench. With the ball in the air, freshman Rodney Purvis sprinted to the basket from the opposite side of the court. He leaped as the ball clanged off the rim and ever-so-cooly threw down one of the best dunks of the season.

N.C. State fans erupted in cheers, and the video of the dunk quickly spread via social media. During halftime, “Rodney Purvis” trended nationally on Twitter.
