Robinson stole something from Malone

Nate Robinson seems one of those guys who wears clothes a size too small so that he can pretend he’s big.

The Chicago Bulls guard is the shortest player in the NBA at 5 feet, 9 inches, but he also is the only three-time champion of the All-Star weekend slam dunk contest. He plays guard but works on his muscular build, as powerful as most centers’. He dunked over Dwight Howard just to feel big (and win one of those contests).

The NBA’s Napoleon delivered again Wednesday in a 101-83 loss to the San Antonio Spurs, giving us the most relaxed layup in the world, in an impression of Karl Malone’s most relaxed dunk ever.

The move was a Malone signature, sort of like his Harley Davidson. The former Utah Jazz star never had crazy ups like Robinson or some of his competitors, but he used his 6-9, 250-pound (ahem) frame to his advantage, taking off with a smooth sail and enjoying the ride.

Robinson’s impression was pretty good, aside from the layup part. CryptoNate is 28 now, so he still should be able to take off and throw one down like a man. LeBron James pulled it off even better about five years ago, but what doesn’t he do better than everyone else?

In fairness, Robinson’s been asked to carry a heavy burden this season for the Bulls. Derrick Rose is out, so Robinson has filled his role as a principle ballhandler and dribble-penetrator, scoring 11.6 points a game while coming off the bench most of the time.

Besides, he’s a foot shorter than Malone and James, even if he doesn’t want to admit it.
