  1. Isaac

Big Lakers fan!! what do you think about this deal I actually really thunk its scenseable for all parties.

    Rockets get:
    PF/C-Pau

    Jazz get:
    SG-Kevin Martin+ #16pk from Hou

    Lakers get:
    PG-Kyle Lowry
    PF-Paul Millsap
    SG- Alec Burcs

    • Derek Page

Another Saturday afternoon chat on the agenda today and we have a lot to get to. Let’s do this!

That’s a giant haul for the Lakers… It wouldn’t be in the Jazz best interest to give up both Millsap and Burks for for just Martin and a middle first round pick. Dream scenario for the Lakers but I don’t buy Utah getting involved for scraps.

  2. Tasia

Hey Derek! I don’t think a rookie would make Carlisle rotation not named Anthony Davis and the Mavs want more cap space.Vince Carter is guaranteed 2.5 million if waived so I can see them including him in a trade. What about VC and Dominique Jones and #17 for 3.1 million tpe(Shawn Livingston) and #31?
Then Mavs will only have to pay 1.4 million in taxes or if the nba collects taxes after July 1st and after they amnesty Haywood they could get the full mle, 4 extra million from this trade and 6 extra million in cap space from the amnesty.

    • Derek Page

You’re spot on with that assessment Tasia. However, the makeup of the roster for the upcoming season – should the Mavs acquire Deron Williams – may force Carlisle out of that mindset. In terms of VC, I think the Mavs best bet would be to keep Carter. Neither Carter nor DoJo really have much trade value at this point and VC played relatively well for Dallas this past season. Also, at around $3 million, Carter’s a pretty good value for Dallas considering what he contributes.

  3. John

    Lakers – Iguodala
    Rockets – Gasol
    Sixers – Lowry/Martin

Seems fair and everyone gets what they want – what do you think?

    • Derek Page

Well John I don’t see Andre Iguodala as a real answer for LA in terms of turning them into legitimate contenders along with OKC and the Spurs in the west. Gasol should fetch the Lakers more on the open market. Philly is also set a point guard with Jrue Holiday and Lou Williams as well so I don’t know why they would ship Iggy off to create a log jam at PG with Kyle Lowry joining the fray.

  4. calvinzero

Can you give me the flexible cap space value (in dollars) of the whole Mavs team?

    • Derek Page

If Vince Carter, Lamar Odom and Brandan Wright are all waived and Brendan Haywood is amnestied, Dallas would have roughly about $20 million in cap space this summer.

  5. Kenny

Should the Blazers trade Batum for Tyreke? Tyreke has the potential to be a superstar but Batum doesn’t.

    • Derek Page

I disagree but most importantly the Blazers disagree. Portland looks at Batum and Lamarcus Aldridge as the future for the Blazers so that trade isn’t going to happen. It also isn’t going to happen because Batum is a restricted free agent this summer.

  6. Matt

I have a great blueprint for Lakers this summer. They call New Orleans first then buzz Alex Martins next.

Kyle Lowry, #14 pick to New Orleans

Pau Gasol, #60 pick to Houston

Trevor Ariza, Kevin Martin, Jarrett Jack, #10 pick to Lakers

    Call to Orlando FO.

Dwight Howard, JJ Redick to Lakers

Andrew Bynum, #10 pick to Orlando Magic

    What do you think?

    • Derek Page

Tons of moving parts here. I don’t know how much sense swapping Bynum for Howard makes or if Orlando would be willing to do Bynum for Howard basically straight up. Magic may want more and Dwight hasn’t forced their hand yet. The first part makes some sense though, for all sides. The Rockets covet Gasol, LA gets a pretty good haul for their big man and New Orleans gets a pretty good point guard in Lowry. Not sure Ariza boomeranging back to LA is realistic though, although he would be a quality addition.

  7. Alex

Can you see Harrison Barnes going number 2? I think he’s an ideal fit.

    • Derek Page

He’s been a chic pick since the NBA Draft Combine because of how many jaws he dropped during workouts. Barnes has definitely increased his draft stock but I continue to stick with Thomas Robinson as the second best player in this draft. Best bet for Charlotte, or whoever ends up with that pick should the Bobcats get the massive trade package in return that they desire, is still Robinson. Huge upside.

  8. jon

derek do you think the nets should just wait for howard in the 2013 season if he is traded to a rental team and what other moves you’ll think they do this offseason

    • Derek Page

That’s the only move they have at this point. Not likely that they have the pieces (minus Brooke Lopez as a trade asset) to acquire Howard this summer. As of right now, I’ve heard that the Nets are trying to move into the first round of the draft – possibly top-10. Brooklyn is going to try to do whatever it takes to keep Deron Williams so desperation moves aren’t out of the question.

  9. jack

The wait is deeply annoying, when will the Lakers make there move?

    • Derek Page

Nothing is going to happen until we get closer to draft night. In the meantime, there’s a pretty good NBA Finals going on that could occupy your time.

  10. BlazerFan

Why dosent any mock draft have Portland taking Damian Lillard?? He looked great in his Blazer workout yesterday, he even said he hopes BLazers draft him because he would fit well with them.

    • Derek Page

That’s a good question. I think Lillard might be a reach at number 6 overall but would be a steal at 11. Not sure he falls to 11th overall though.

  11. Chris

    Derek,
If you were the sixers GM what would you do?

    • Derek Page

The Sixers have a solid young core to work with right now and an excellent head coach in Doug Collins. The only real problem for Philly is that they lack that prolific scorer/go to guy offensively. Can Evan Turner be that guy? That’s a legitimate possibly and really, with the defense they sport, that’s the only aspect missing that’s blocking this team from true contention.

  12. An

I’m looking for the Nugs to draft a stretch 4 since Karl loves having one on the floor and when he puts in Big Al our rebounding suffers. That being said, who do you see as the better stretch 4, Andrew Nicholson or Arnett Moultrie? And would you happen to know why Moultrie skipped workouts? All I heard was his agent told him to.

    • Derek Page

Moultrie is both the better shooter and better all around player so that would be a quality pick for Denver. Tight hamstrings is the official word for why he missed the first day but Moutlrie has visited teams for workouts since.

  13. Davor

Greetings from Argentina! Is there ANY chance for the HEAT to trade Dwyane Wade? I thinkt that they could work a pretty good trade like Wade x Al Horford+Hinrich or something like that for a couple of reliable players. I know that this would be difficult (Wade is the face of the onli HEAT team that won a title) but i think that is the best choice.

    • Derek Page

I’d say there is a chance, albeit a slim one, that the HEAT could have some internal discussions this summer regarding Wade’s value on the market. If Miami wins the title, though, there’s just about no chance of a trade. Of the only two players with value and with the possibility to be traded on the HEAT (Bosh being the other), Wade would get the biggest return.

  14. force23

do you think Dallas is going to trade in the draft night?

    • Derek Page

It certainly wouldnt be the first time. I fully expect Mark Cuban and Donnie Nelson to be on the phones and extremely active between the end of the Finals and draft night.

  15. Dave

Derek, i really believe that the Lakers should hire Don Nelson as an offensive coordinater. He’s a smart basketball guy to surround Mike Brown with. Should the Lakers do this?

    • Derek Page

Don Nelson isn’t coming back to the NBA to be an assistant coach. Would take a head coaching gig and a ton of money for Nellie to stop partying with Willie Nelson in Maui for a season.

  16. Damian

Derek, if the Mavs are successful in courting Deron Williams, therefore likely having amnestied B. Haywood…will they be interested in Chris Kaman? Would Kaman take slightly less money to play with his German bud & DWill?

    • Derek Page

Definitely. Only question would be whether or not Kaman would be willing to take a massive pay cut to come to Dallas should Williams sign in Big D for the max. There will definitely be dialogue between the Mavs and Kaman’s agent this summer.

  17. Dave

With the 53rd pick i think the Clippers should draft an International player.
I really like Nedovic, Radosevic, Papanikolaou and Kuzmic. Instead of wasting a pick on an American player who might not even make the team, wouldn’t it be wise to get an international guy to help in a few years?

    • Derek Page

Plenty of those late round international picks disappear as well. Just because you send a guy overseas for a few years doesn’t mean he’s going to form into a well-rounded player. Second rounds picks are a gamble no matter what.

  18. Kerrsed

With Nash most likely moving on and the Suns looking to re-build, do you think now is the time for Phoenix to trade Gortat while his value is so high? I think when Nash leaves, Gortats stats will drop and lower his value. Suns could really use an influx of young talent, and i think Gortat could net us that. Would a team like Boston give up both picks for him? What kind of haul do you think the Suns could get for him?

    • Derek Page

I wouldn’t say Nash moving on is a guarantee at this point but you’re right: if Nash leaves it might be time to sell high on Gortat if you can get a couple of quality guys in return. Seven foot centers with Gortat’s array of skills don’t grow on trees so I would expect the Suns to ask for the farm should they decide to trade him. The price would have to be right.

  19. Dave

If everything goes wrong for the Nets (D-Will and Wallace leaving).
If Lopez didn’t want to resign in Brooklyn, do you think a Sign and trade could be made with the Clippers for Deandre Jordan?
Lopez and Griffin would be an AMAZING duo.

    • Derek Page

Amazing offensive duo but Lopez isn’t a good defender or rebounder. Jordan is a better compliment to Griffin simply because of his defensive prowess and athleticism around the basket. If you bring in Lopez, that forces Griffin to guard the opposing team’s best post player every night and that would not be conducive to success.

  20. Dave

Who would say no? (salaries work)
    Atlanta Gets: Deandre Jordan
    Clippers Get: Zaza and Williams

    • Derek Page

Could be possible. Not sure LA wants to bail on Jordan quite yet though.

  21. Justin

What do you think of Austin Rivers to the Raptors at #8? I think given the opportunity and the time to grow and really learn all the facets of not only the game but his game, he’ll be a big time offensive option for the Raptors.

    • Derek Page

Rivers is a reach at number 8. Better options in that area for Toronto such as Damian Lillard and Jeremy Lamb.

  22. Weston

Should the Lakers go after Tyreke Evans?

    • Derek Page

If the price is right. He’s not worth Pau Gasol but if you could finagle Evans away for spare parts(highly unlikely), he’s worth a gamble.

  23. charlie

What is the realistic chance that Bynum will be traded for Howard in July – less than 50/50? At trade deadline – more than 50/50? Real risk that Bynum will walk as free agent after next year too! He wants to be option 1, and not behind Kobe – So I don’t see any risk with the Lakers – They can save lots of cap space if Howard or Bynum leaves after 2013 – Do you agree?

    • Derek Page

If he doesn’t sign an extension, Howard almost assuredly gets traded from Orlando this summer. No one in the organization wants to relive the head ache that was the 2011-2012 season. I doubt LA would trade Bynum just to rent Howard. There would have to be an extension in place for the Lakers to acquire Dwight.

Thanks for the time guys! If I missed you hit me up on Twitter @DPageHOOPSWORLD or shoot me an email – dpage@hoopsworld.com. Until next week my friends. Have a good weekend.
