Do you think the Indiana Pacers can beat the Miami Heat in a 7 game series I firmly believe that they can what’s your thoughts
I hope that one day I walk outside, ain’t no ghetto. No ghetto. There will be no ghetto … What’s up Hoop Freaks? The regular season is almost over and with that I’m wrapping up my third season here at HOOPSWORLD. Time flies. Thanks to all who have been rocking with me since day one. Full house tonight and I’m feeling like I may go for forty … to send a message heading into the playoffs, lol.
The Pacers get a lot of love when it comes to Miami because of how they conducted themselves last year in the [playoff versus the HEAT and rightfully so. But there are a couple of things to note here … Danny Granger is not around and the HEAT now have a championship confidence.
The Pacers are athletic and long on the perimeter and have the interior size advantage. So, naturally they will give Miami trouble and stay in most contests, but at the end of the day I don’t see Indiana coming out with their hands raised. Too much LeBron. Too much D-Wade. Too much character from Miami.
Good evening sir Greene,
As a resident of New York and a life long Knicks fan, I m concerned about or coach’s philosophy. You’ve cover him in ATL for a few yrs, do you think in the playoffs, he will revert back to his iso plays and the team will be very predictable? Or do you think we can hope to see the team play good ball movement? Any prediction on who will make the conference finals (East & West)? Really enjoy your chat and always grateful for your time.
Have a good one.
What’s good my man? Call me Lang.
I think the Knicks will play just like they have all regular season. The question is whether the three-balls will continue to fall in their favor. One thing about Woody is his lead guys typically have career years under his watch. Joe Johnson put up big stats. Carmelo is putting up huge numbers. The Knicks will be fine from a philosophy standpoint.
I have the Miami HEAT versus the Oklahoma City Thunder in a repeat NBA Finals matchup from last season.
How will the Hawks fare in the playoffs this year?
The Hawks will be the underdogs versus Brooklyn or Indiana in the first round. But out of the two, I believe Atlanta has a better shot versus Brooklyn. I think the Pacers are just a bit too physical and are a much better defensive team than the Nets.
With the loss of Kobe, what’s next for the Lakers franchise?
This is the million dollar question. But I wouldn’t panic if I’m the Lakers’ front office. Kobe could be ready by January or February and assuming the team re-signs Dwight Howard you’d expect them to at least be hovering around the .500 mark. At this point, you have to explore the option of trading Pau Gasol again for multiple pieces. The problem is unless he has a strong showing in the postseason the market for his services will be very dry. No one is going to want to pay $19 million for a declining player. Maybe Toronto will show interest because their fan base is screaming playoffs … but even then I can’t see the Raptors giving up true building blocks for Gasol. And, I still believe Gasol is better than who Toronto would be dangling as a trade chip (Andrea Bargnani).
As an objective journalist, how can it refuted that the NBA is doing everything in its power to get LA in the Playoffs? There are several videos on youtube that highlight all of the ghost calls and non calls during lakers games.
On top of that, all the lakers claiming its a for sure thing they make the post season.
How can so many bad, and just plain wrong calls be made in favor of one team, game after game after game? Why isn’t anyone reporting this? Are reporters afraid? or are they really that blind? Is it too taboo? The Lakers have been doing this for years! Come on! Watch these videos and tell me this isn’t happening.
Anybody who knows me knows I’m always up for a little conspiracy theory talk. There are conspiracies all around us … but I just don’t think the league is making a concerted effort to aid the Lakers. There were bad calls all over those videos, sure … but I watch NBA games all the time with the benefit of slow motion and ultra-zoom cams and yell out “come of ref” with the best of them.
I mean, if you were really trying to aid someone … wouldn’t you start the process earlier in the season and not the last ten games of the campaign? Why would anyone in the league embark in such a risk and call in the dogs to help the Lakers when ALL eyes are now watching the pro game? Why not aid them during those dog days in December and January? That’s where the conspiracy talk runs out of steam … why not do it when the NFL and college football are still going strong, when not as many people are paying attention … see what I mean?
The lakers need to fill some pieces this offseason after losing kobe..i think getting iverson would be a good start..he can give them 15 to 20 a game..what do u think?
Let me first say, respect to a legendary player in Allen Iverson. He is undoubtedly one of the best ever to lace up the high tops. He is also a first ballot Hall of Famer and should be respected by the league. He was a goodie monster … a certified truth machine.
But under no circumstances is Iverson or should Iverson be considered a savior for a NBA franchise at this point. Can he potentially give a team 10 minutes per night … maybe. But AI, and I love AI, is no longer an impact player. Those days are over. A distant memory.
I would like to clarify my comment on Paul George last chat…. First off I wasn’t calling Trevor Ariza a bum…. I was just comparing George to Ariza in the sense that they are lock-down defenders, but have limited offensive abilities. I was merely questioning George and his potential to be a star, not whether he was effective as a player or not. George has no in between game, he can’t create separation with his shot. Can you explain why people see him as a potential star?
Look, some guys do it for us out on the floor and other guys don’t. Paul George must be one of those guys that just doesn’t impress you. That’s cool. There are still some guys who question whether LeBron is headed toward the Mount Rushmore of NBA legends. Cool.
But let me say this … how many teams could truly absorb a guy like Danny Granger going down? Paul George stepped up and is averaging 17/7/4 on the season, shoots 36 percent from three-point range and 81 percent from the free throw line. And this is just his third season in the league. The guy is just 22 years old. Imagine where he’ll be at 26 years old and entering his prime. He can guard an opposing team’s best perimeter threat and is just six tenths away from being the team’s assist leader. You put him on the Atlanta Hawks right now and you tell me how high their stock would rise …
He’s not a superstar, but if you can’t see why his future is bright then he just doesn’t do it for you and there is nothing I can or anyone can do to change your mind on this.
Sup Langy, -_-
Coming from a die-hard t-wolves fan, who do we shop in the FA market and the draft. I get the feeling that Nikola Pekovic isnt coming back so we will need a person to fill his spot. But we desperately need a SF. I have faith in Chase B but I just dont see him getting experience behind this terrible head coach and him sitting behind AK47.
You may not like coach Adelman, but Chase Budinger recently said he enjoys playing for him and that his presence on the bench would be one of his deciding factors on whether to re-sign.
Pekovic is going to get paid. There are numerous teams out there with cap space … and those teams will have a demand at center. The Wolves really need some help at shooting guard. That’s the position I’d be targeting. Gerald Henderson might deserve a look.
Isn’t it crazy to think this could be the first postseason in over a decade with no Kobe, no Dirk, no Nash and where Duncan and KG could get bounced in the first round?
Father Time is undefeated … all wins coming by way of knockout. The league is shifting …those guys drafted in the 90s are at the end of their respective “basketball” life cycle
So what’s the league going to do about that Celtics-Pacers game now?
No plans to reschedule. Doesn’t impact playoff race … it was the right thing to do with all that’s going on.
Carlisle recently had very pointed comments about Mayo’s lack of effort down the stretch, do you see this as a reflection that the Mavs’ perspective of his long-term future with the club has significantly decreased through the season?
I think Rick Carlisle is just trying to push OJ Mayo to play at the same level as his potential. Mayo has the talent to be a top 25 guy in the league. Good athleticism, decent size, good jumper … nice basketball IQ … but there is a reason he hasn’t made the jump. Some guys are content just being good. Some are driven and have a maniacal urge to be great. I think Rick likes OJ and is just trying to get him to play up to his natural abilities.
But after this much time in the league we might have to come to grips that it just may not be in Mayo’s character to rise to the next level.
What kind of money can Chris Anderson & Kenyon Martin expect to make in free agency??
Same as they’re making now … maybe a little more. Those guys are up there in age, so veteran’s minimum … maybe a team digs into a portion of their MLE … but I just don’t see it. Solid veterans, but teams just don’t invest big money in aging role players.
I hope Kobe comes back soon, man. I just love his game and his demeanor. NBA needs him.
My question is, lets say the Lakers win the championship this year and Kobe gets his 6th ring, will he get credit for it or will people say he didn’t play and shouldn’t count as his 6th. I don’t like comparing him to Jordan but you know people are going to regardless
The Lakers aren’t winning the chip this year my brother. Not by a long shot. They are what Bill Ingram and I like to call first round toast.
But yes, IF they did folks would discredit it … or question his true importance. For instance they would say he was a supporting cast member for four of them and only led the way twice.
Man Lang I can’t wait for the playoffs to start!
My question is what do you think the reasoning is behind the Spurs signing T-Mac? What can he realistically do for them at this point? I don’t see him making much of a difference for them, am I wrong?
Veteran presence. Experienced player who knows how to score and can get you a few points if needed in a pinch. Not many guys like that out there right now on the market with the Spurs letting Stephen Jackson go … I don’t expect T-Mac to play much, but when his number is called he won’t embarrass himself.
Hey Lang, What do you make of the T-mac signing? The Spurs’ offense is very intricate and sophisticated. Do you think a player like T-Mac, who thrives on iso situation rather than set plays, can adapt to the new system in time to make an impact in the playoffs? As a Spurs fan, I can’t wait to see TD-TMac pick and roll!!!!
I really don’t expect T-Mac to log major minutes at all. He’s an “in case of an emergency” type of pick up for the team. In the right spots he can still be very effective. He also has a very high basketball IQ so I don’t think adapting will be too much of an issue. The Spurs just don’t make moves like this willy nilly … there was plenty of thought put into this move. Trust me.
Lang, Bet is off on Marcus Smart being ROY next season.
I had a “sense” he was staying BMOC at OSU for another year. Even though I’m a Sooner, my Daughter is an OSU Alum. My Sister was a walk-on Cowgirl in the early 80′s. Still hate the “Pokes”.
I think it’s great for College BB and Travis Ford’s coaching career…McAdoo too at NC? There is nothing wrong with riding that scholarship, remember the days when Lew Alcindor wasn’t considered ready to play College ball as a Freshman?
What’s up my man!!! Smart and McAdoo going back to school is huge for college basketball. I’m still shocked at Smart’s decision because he was a guaranteed top five selection. I was reading his comments about understanding the money he was giving up … I hope he doesn’t regret this decision later in life.
Also interesting listening to an interview with Martell Webster this week. Martell jumped straight to the league from high school yet said he wouldn’t do it over if he had to again … said he feels he missed out on a huge social void by skipping school.
You know my view, take the money and opportunity to reach your dream while its within your grasp. Look at all thoase 30-for-30s on “what-if” stories. Man, listen.
Haven’t caught much Hawks action this year…any improvement from D. Harris?
How would you rank him compared to guys like D. Collison as far as backup PGs go?
I’d take Devin Harris over Darren Collison as it stands right now. Devin is a solid competitor and is still pretty quick even though he’s starting to age a bit. The problem with Devin is his health. He has had numerous leg ailments over the past few years and those things just don’t stop as you continue getting older and so much of his game is predicated on quickness,
Lang Lang Lang….
If T-Mac is rollin with the Spurs and Q-Rich is with the Knicks…man I better see A.I. lacing up on some playoff team. If the Lakers win and go through to the Playoffs…SIGN HIM UP!!
Sadly, no team is going to give Iverson a shot. He’s like a relic from a bygone era. I’m glad he didn’t take that D-League offer. He deserves a legit tryout.
Personally coming from war, i remember that sport was the only thing that could keep our keep our mind away from war and death, even if it was only for a few minutes. Now we se that bombing in boston, whats wrong with us human beings Lang ?? i feel sad, those bombs could easly have been planted in boston garden!back to basketball, big Kd-westbrook fan, what do you think russ should change in the playoffs ??
Thanks for your service to this country. I appreciate you. I think I speak for all the Hoop Freaks when I say that. The thing is, killing and destruction, unfortunately has remained one of mankind’s characteristics over the years. Violence is a big part of our society and there are some sick individuals out there that choose to resort to it when they can’t hack what life is throwing at them.
Russ shouldn’t change at all. When you start seriously altering your game at this point in the season … trouble is on the horizon. Going into a championship fight I wouldn’t ask a brawler to turn into a masterful boxer and vice versa.
It’s seem like the last two years the heat have been lucky with going to the finals because of injurys none of there big three have had major injurys even the year they lost to Dallas Caron butler was hurt last year d rose and Jeff green Avery Bradley Dwight Howard this year d rose rondo granger amare tony Parker ginonili Kobe Nash it’s easy money for them
You got to stop hating my man. Injuries are part of the game. Besides, D-Wade played the entire postseason in 2012 on a damaged knee that needed surgery immediately after the finals. If I remember correctly, Wade also got hurt in the Finals in 2011 versus the Mavericks too.
It’s like me saying the Bulls’ championship back in 1993 (versus Phoenix) wasn’t legit because Cedric Ceballos was injured. That wouldn’t make sense.
Lang, will the C’s or Knicks win their first-round series? If Bradley and Lee can control the perimeter and Green can slow Melo, the C’s should prevail. When I look at the Knicks roster, I just don’t know how they won so many games. They seem like a paper tiger to me. What about to you.
The Knicks will win this series. But I’m looking to see how they win it. The Celtics are going to test them. Frustrate them. Stifle them. I’m looking at the character and leadership showed as they get the job done. How they react when beating Boston will tell you what you need to know going into a showdown with Miami
Offseason. Josh Smith approaches the Hawks and tell them that he wants to sign with the Celtics no matter what. Do you think Ferry would (or should) take a package of Bass, Lee, Melo and a future second round draft pick?
Wouldn’t be ideal, but at least it would net some talent.
Good evening Lang, first thanks for excellent season long chat host ‘goodness’; Will be decided tonight- do you think ATL would fare better facing IND or BKN in 12/13 1st round series?
Thanks my man! I do it for you guys. Answered something similar earlier … I like Atlanta’s chances versus Brooklyn more than Indiana. I just think the Pacers are all wrong for the Hawks without Lou Williams and Zaza
