I know this may seem far fetch but would the bobcats consider dealing Kemba Walker for a top five pick this year. If they keep him they will still lose, but he will be due a raise soon. If they landed the first pick and was able to acquire another pick to draft Marcus Smart, they maintain cap space and add two new pieces. I’m thinking take Noel at #1 draft Smart, trade back into the first round (late maybe with OKC) draft Tony Mitchell. Start all three along with a resigned Gerald Henderson and MKG. As we seen with Orlando if you play the “kids” they get better and produce. You are still in great position to get your star next year.
What’s up Hoop Freaks? I would ask you guys about your brackets, but most people I talk with say theirs were busted early. I’m here for you tonight … hit me with any and everything basketball related. Let’s rock …
Whoa there my man … lots going on in the rebuilding plan you outlined above. But I just don’t believe the Bobcats will trade Kemba Walker for a draft pick. From everyone I talk with close to the organization the feeling is that Kemba is an important building block to their success. The leap Kemba made over his rookie campaign is very impressive. I would expect even more from him in year three. I doubt they trade him. Really do.
What up Lang? I think Shaq is kinda right about Dwight. He’s not really playing against any great centers. He shoud be averaging 28pts and 15rbs easy. You agree?
No, I don’t agree. As a player all you can do is dominate the competition of your day. Dwight’s game is full of holes, sure … but if you look hard enough at someone you can always discredit them. Let’s play the discredit game. One would argue that Shaq should have at least ONE rebuilding crown to his credit if he claims to be the most dominant player ever, right? What about that free throw shooting? Or what about getting swept and torched by Hakeem Olajuwon in the Finals? What about not showing up to camp in the best of shape during his prime years?
See … we can go the discredit route but what does it prove. Shaq is a Hall of Famer and one of the greatest ever. Period. Before it’s all said and done Dwight may also be Hall of Fame bound.
Dwight’s career script is still being written. Let’s read the book all the way through.
It looks like jeff green is worth the contract he got from the C’s ?? he can play ball, he reminds of paul pierce, only much more athletic, do you think that it is time to let jeff start, he could take the league by storm. do you think he is a future allstar ?
I think Jeff Green could end up in the Danny Granger realm – possibly. Definitely not the Paul Pierce realm. But I need to see more. He still has to show me he can put this kind of stuff together for a FULL season. Guys go on hot runs all the time. The game’s best are able to sustain. There’s a difference.
Do you think Indiana will move Granger so that they can re-sign David West? To me he is the more important piece.
I definitely think the Pacers’ front office needs to start evaluating their options when it comes to Danny. They probably already are doing the necessary due diligence. Word on the street is that Danny will never be a full-time 70+ game guy again because of his knees, which is a shame.
Priority number one needs to be re-signing David West for Indiana. But he will be in demand this summer and I expect teams to make it tough for the Pacers to bring him back.
Lang, I’m thinking no one on planet earth can D-up LeBron 1 on 1 when he’s just sort of feeling it?
What ONE guy in the League play’s the best D on LBJ, Mano a Mano perimeter to rim?
Ya know what I’m trying to say? Not smack talk or needling him in the press.. I’m talking about on court round-ball..the ONE guy that you think LBJ secretly doesn’t like dealing with, his “personal” red-ass?
Good question. First, let me get this out of the way. I don’t think anyone in the game today can lock LeBron down completely. No one. LeBron is a certified problem and a dude who would get his numbers in any era – past, present and future.
When I think of guys who would give LeBron problems defensively I like to think about physicality. Guys who get in your chest and touch you. Guys who put their hands on you and won’t let you catch the ball in rhythm. You’d be surprised how many of the top guys absolutely HATE contact. Let’s see … (retired) Bruce Bowen was a guy no one wanted to play against, back in the day – even Kobe. Andre Iguodala is a current player that I think has the potential to disrupt LeBron for a solid amount of time.
But another aspect of this is length. The Pacers’ Paul George has length and athleticism and clearly gives LeBron some problems when he guards him. A younger Tayshaun Prince wouldn’t be a bad choice either.
Lang, while I recognize the C’s troubles right now (all the injuries), I still see a bright future–unlike most prognoticians. Look at this lineup for next season: Rondo, Bradley, Green, Sullinger, and Garnett (with Pierce and Lee being the main bench strength–along with Bass and Terry, but those two have been inconsistent to say the least). That starting lineup would give Rondo the runners that he’s never had (both Green and Bradley) and the rebounder (Sully) that the team has lacked since KG’s gotten older. What do you think about the C’s future?
As currently constructed the Celtics would make another playoff run. They have playoff talent, clearly. But as Pierce and KG decline, there’s just not enough replacement power there to legitimately make a title run. Jeff Green is getting comfortable. Sully will be a solid interior guy. Avery can defend both guard positions. But at the end of the day, this is a stars league … and with KG and Pierce’s true beast mode days long gone … so is the Celtics’ hopes to win a championship. Once again, this is as currently constructed.
whats up lang i got a cereberal question 4 u if you could see any 3 current playoff team coached by any coach past or present who would it be mine would be okc by don nelson talking bout run and gun cliippers by jerry sloan can you imagine all the pick and rolls and screen and pops last the lakers by doc rivers can you say perfect fit for a veteran team
Good hypothetical question.
Would love to see the Lakers coached by Phil Jackson. Maybe he makes it work. Maybe he couldn’t. But I would have loved to see him try.
Would love to see what Pat Riley could do with this Indiana Pacers team. They seem to be built like his Knicks and early Miami teams.
Would love to see what George Karl could do with the Oklahoma City Thunder. I know coach is on a “win without a superstar” campaign, but I would like to see what he could have done with the Thunder.
good day lang i would really like your opinion on this me and my friends are confused and troubled in baseball you can turn pro when you want soccer check tennis check hockey i think so too with the recent injury in louisville its making us wonder why only predominately african american sports have an age restriction shouldnt these kids have a right to provide for their family tough question i know butas someone who grew up around boxing where only one punch away from retirement im curious to hear your opinion
The Hoops Freaks are bringing some great questions tonight …
Hey Mark …
I see your point, but I truly don’t believe it is race related. The decisions of the NFL and NBA are strictly business. The NFL basically uses college football as a three year free advertisement engine. By the time guys get into the NFL they already have a built in fan base. Look at the recent Heisman trophy winner – Johnny Manziel. The hype surrounding him will be insane.
In the NBA, guys were jumping from high school without that fan base and the fans didn’t know much about them other than the fact they were young, had tattoos and listened to rap music (in most cases). This helped lazy journalists usher in the “thug league” mantra that really impacted the image of the league. Every now and then I still hear the thug league nonsense … makes me sick.
But my opinion is and will always be … if you got the skills to pay the bills, then you should be granted an opportunity to pursue your profession.
Lang, do you think Kevin Ware can come back from that injury or is his basketball career over before it even started? Assuming he was going to make it to the NBA that is.
Don’t know much about his NBA prospects. He wasn’t on the NBA radar just yet, serving primarily as a role player with the Cardinals. Medically, they are saying he should be able to resume his professional career again … but my opinion is that he’ll potentially never be the same again – mentally.
See the mental aspect will be a tough one to overcome for K-Dub. I’m pulling for him … let’s see if the young man defies the odds.
Hi Lang, with the nets needing a decent PF why did they not look at bringing in kenyon martin? He’s killing it in NY
Perception versus Reality. Simple as that. I spoke with George Karl earlier this season and he said there was no doubt that Kenyon should have been on a NBA roster. He also said most executives were starting to go young so that may have left Kenyon out in the cold. I asked Andre Miller about this too … and Andre’s response was classic “Wait, Kenyon isn’t in the league? Everyone can use a guy like that?”
I mean, Kenyon wasn’t a saint by any means … but in my opinion he built up enough equity to at least get a chance to show he still had it.
Hey there Langy!
As much as I’m a HEAT fan and truly believe they can go back-to-back, I cannot get this weird feeling out of my stomach about the Knicks taking it all this year. Those first two 20+ point wins over Miami, and just the way they’ve been playing has me thinking we may witness history in the NBA… A draft class (2003) with the top 5 picks ALL earning at least one championship ring. Melo wants it baaaaaad!!!
The more I watch the Knicks the more I start to like their chances of reaching the Eastern Conference Finals. Miami is a different type of animal to beat though. You got to beat them four out of seven. See that’s the big part of this … do the Knicks have the mental toughness to get up for EVERY game in the series and play against the HEAT like they did in the regular season? I’m not sold on that.
The big question is can you win a title with JR Smith being you second best player?
With the ’72 Lakers streak unbroken, how likely are the Heat to set their sights on the 01′ Lakers and go undefeated through the playoffs?
HEAT will catch some losses. They are the best team in the league but not one of the most dominating teams in history if that makes sense. The HEAT can be beaten. There are several teams who will give them a run and make them work on a nightly basis. But at the end of the day, I see the HEAT taking another title home.
Lang, I know this is NBA Chat, but what are your thoughts on Alford going to UCLA?
I was sort of surprised?
Tubby Smith makes perfect sense at Texas Tech.
NBA draft, OKC’s pick from Toronto is top three protected..so why is the 4-5-6 picks “can’t get it” for OKC? According to Royce Young?
Surprise hire for UCLA going with Alford, but I think he will make it work. I am with you though. Came out of left field.
Love Tubby Smith. Good for the collegiate game. Wishing him the best at Tech.
Lang, is Portland tanking? Why is Nolan Smith watching the whole play unfold? Play some “D” man….really?
No, I don’t believe Portland is tanking. Spoke with a lot of their guys a couple weeks back and they really were passionate about trying to make a playoff run. They just ran out of gas and don’t have the horses.
Nolan Smith’s defense, or lack thereof, is the reason why he is the odd man out in Portland.
Do you think there is any chance Hoopsworld gets a makeover? This site has great info and writers, but it looks terrible, and things like the comment system make the site annoying for users.
HOOPSWORLD actually just got a makeover last year, I believe. Site looks good to me. The comment section used to be open without logging in but some bad apples really spoiled it for the whole crew.
I would direct any suggestions you have to Steve Kyler. He runs the show. I don’t have sway when it comes to that side of the business.
Hello Lang. A few quick questions. First, how much do you see Gerald Henderson getting per year this summer? What number, per year, is too high for the Bobcats. Secondly, will Aminu return to the Hornets? If not, where do you see them going with a starting SF?
For Gerald Henderson … $6 to $7 million per season would be decent. When you start getting in the $9 million per year range, you have to say that’s just too high. The Hornets like Aminu and I think they will match anything within reason. Atlanta would be a good fit for him as well. The team needs a defensive oriented guy on the wing.
What’s good brother lang? Who do think the hawks should be looking at in the draft? I like Trey Burke and Caldwell-Pope. Thoughts?
Trey Burke was slated to be around once the Hawks drafted but with his play in the NCAA Tournament he probably won’t be on the board.
I like CJ McCollum. If he’s around, the Hawks should definitely look into him as an option.
Who u got to anchor your ship, prime shaq n kobe or prime wade n lebron? Cant wait for the intense and crazy playoffs! Ring the bell and let get it on! Go bulls!!!!!
Prime Shaq and Kobe … all day.
been keeping track of the wizards lately, do you think they have a descent playoff chance next year? love what walls doin and it seems they may finally at least come out of the nba basement
Wall is another example, like Jeff Green, of someone I need to see put it together for a full season. Wall has the talent. That has never been the question. The question with Wall is can he put it all together for a full 82? If so, yes, I can see the Wizards making a playoff push next season.
Clubber Lang vs Pootie Tang. Twelve rounds. Ceasar’s Palace. Who you got?
Man, if Pootie Tang can extend Clubber Lang past the third round he’s got a shot. Clubber was an absolute beast but loaded up too much on his punches and got winded. Every punch he threw had ill intentions.
Which was the bigger draft-day bust?
Detroit taking Darko (and thus giving up what would have been a potential dynasty had they taken anyone else) or Atlanta passing on CP3 (and giving up on CP3 to Smoove alley-oops for the next decade)?
Going with Detroit selecting Darko. Say what you want about Atlanta missing on CP3, but the franchise just clinched their sixth straight playoff berth.
While Detroit on the other hand has been languishing in the basement as of late.
Sometimes you just can’t get too caught up in the past and let one decision define you. Sure the Hawks would have better with CP3, but they’ve carved out success nonetheless if we’re being fair.
move your feetza….to daddy greens pizza!!!!
could a cp3 and d12 superteam beat the heat next year? if not what combination?
or is the fortune cookie empty with no combination beating the heat?
Great Last Dragon reference, of course.
In my opinion, OKC is a post scorer away from getting their title. Too perimeter oriented. They need a guy who can go to work on the inside as well. Just my opinion.
It’s Wed. and that means it’s Lang Time. Whats good Big Dawg.
1. If your the Hawks, whats your opinion on J.R Smith as your 2
2. John Jenkins looks better as his minute increased, is he the 6th man next season
3. Which player would you add to the Hawks that’s flyin under the radar, but if given a chance could open some eyes
Last question of the night and its from my man 3Q
1. I don’t believe JR Smith fits Danny Ferry’s vision, but Danny did take a chance on Delonte West once upon a time so anything is possible. I just don’t see it.
2. No. I still have Lou Williams as the team’s sixth man once he gets healthy again
3. If Jeff Teague gets a ridiculous offer the team can’t afford to match, Atlanta should look into Jarrett Jack as an option. He would be a good stop gap guy.
