NBA Chat With Yannis 11/9/12

Join senior NBA and NCAA analyst Yannis Koutroupis for his weekly chat this Friday Nov. 9 at 11 am est!

  1. LA in LA

It’s not that the Lakers are 1-4, it’s that they are losing games to inferior teams and the defense looks bad and there are too many TOs. So I’m disturbed Jim Buss says “Mike Brown works too hard for this to be happening”.
In response I think Jim Buss needs to remember 2 brilliant quotes:
John Wooden once said “Never mistake activity with achievement”. Activity being Mike Brown’s ‘hard work’.
    Also “Work harder not smarter”.
    Thoughts?

    • Yannis Koutroupis

Welcome to this week’s chat! Let’s get right to it.

Great quotes, especially in this situation. I’ve been a big believer in Brown but he has really had a rough start. There’s part of me who points to how much Miami’s loyalty to Spoelstra paid off, but a bigger part of me thinks if you can replace Brown with Sloan now you do it.

  2. joe

what about trading joel anthony and a first round pick for jimer freddete to groom the next ray allen

    • Yannis Koutroupis

That’s the last thing Miami needs, more guards and less big men.

  3. Steve

Do you think demar derozan could play SF by next year so that they can sign a starting caliber SG?

    • Yannis Koutroupis

I think the hope is that they can play him and Ross on the perimeter together.

  4. Homer

    Yo Yannis,
What’s with all the Laker fuzz/buss? We should be talking about the Clippers, yes?
We know what to expect from CP3 and Blake, Jordan is a beast and Crawford is a legit 6th MOY candidate. Once Billups and Hill return from injury and gel with the others, are we talking about legit title contenders here?

    • Yannis Koutroupis

Without a doubt. Lakers struggles are a bigger surprise than the Clippers success, plus they’re the Lakers – that’s why they’re dominating headlines.

  5. Jim in Cyber Space

Nick Collison is Heady player, He lost his Pick N Roll soul mate. But you can already see he’s adjusted..He’s picked up on K-Mart’s backdoor cut’s…you can see he’s looking for the bounce pass under the defender’s hands.

I predict they will be making beautiful music together by season’s end.

    • Yannis Koutroupis

I’m all for readers making predictions, but come on Jim this is a chat gotta get a question in there somewhere!

  6. Magic Fan

What do you expect from Harkless?

    • Yannis Koutroupis

To work hard, learn from his mistakes and not let the mistakes he makes with on his mind in a negative way. I think come next year he’ll be starting-caliber.

  7. josh

    Yannis,

What do you think the Jazz do for their PG of the future? I personally think they sign Mo Williams to a 3 year deal and then find their next PG through the draft. Mo fits our system well and runs the team well. Unless they go big with offering a max to someone like Chris Paul, Mo is our best option…

    • Yannis Koutroupis

Mo is playing his way to a new contract. I think he could be signing on with them long term.

  8. Tim

Yannis my man! Good game tonight, Mavs vs Knicks. Which teams hot start are you more surprised by? Dallas without dirk or Knicks without Amare & Shump. Which team do you think will continue this level of play? Which team had the fluke start?

    • Yannis Koutroupis

I’m more surprised by Dallas’ hot start. I expect New York’s strong play to hold up and for them to be better than Dallas in the long run.

  9. Stretch

What are your thoughts on playing young NBA guys from the get-go? It seems like, today, all the superstars were given the greeen light early. I’m asking this with regards to Favors and kanter, who were both #3 picks, but it seems like their combined minutes are less that what Jefferson or Millsap are getting on their own.

    • Yannis Koutroupis

I think guys can be successful either way, but with the way the new CBA is you’re better off giving young players the green light earlier so teams know what they have and can gauge their value appropriately.

  10. GM

Do you think mgk will ever be an all star in the nba? (i personally think his game closely resembles Scottie Pippen)

  11. Bob

Can Toronto get rudy gay if we package Jose Calderon and Ed Davis and some picks maybe even add fields in there somehow

    • Yannis Koutroupis

Have to see this ownership’s approach first. That’s close to a salary dump, I think Gay is playing too well to do that.

  12. Stephen

Tyreke for Granger, who says no?

  13. James

Stan Van next coach for the lake show?

  14. Michael

How good (or bad) are the Nets? I was telling everybody in the offseason that they wont be very good. Other than adding Johnson (who at this point in his career is an inefficient scorer) they have basically the same team as last year. Brook Lopez is overrated imo because he can’t rebound or play solid Defense. Definitely not a max contract player. Do you think he is an overrated center?

    • Yannis Koutroupis

They’re much improved and a playoff team without a doubt. This is the best team they could have put together. Some pieces may be overpaid or overrated but they were all moves they had to make.

  15. Mike

What are your thoughts on Marvin Williams, he started out hot and then faded away

  16. Marcus

Larry Sanders is playing his way into the Bucks starting C spot. Am I on track by thinking Miami, Boston, San Antonio, and Atlanta would have substantial interest in acquiring Samuel Dalembert’s services?

    • Yannis Koutroupis

I seriously doubt they’d give up anything worthwhile if they were. He’s not a big impact guy.

That’s it for me this week folks I’ll be back next week at the same time!
