NBA: Heat’s James doused by fan after game
Miami’s LeBron James, who scored 45 points on Thursday night in Boston, had what appeared to be a beer poured on him after Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals.
James was leaving the TD Bank Garden court after Miami’s 98-79 victory when he was doused through a mesh awning toward entrance to the visitor’s locker room. He turned to wipe off his shoulder and kept walking.
A suited man who appeared to be with James also appeared to be drenched.
The Heat forward made 19 of 26 shots Thursday and grabbed 15 rebounds. His effort helped the Heat tied the series at 3-3 and force a deciding Game 7 in Miami.
Neither Heat nor Celtics officials have commented on the incident.
–Speculation was rampant as Syracuse guard Dion Waiters left the NBA combine in Chicago that he didn’t go empty-handed.
The NBA confirmed Waiters had left and in the process cancelled all remaining workouts with teams. The idea that he was given a draft-day promise by a team with an early pick seemed to carry weight.
“His agent told me there’s a promise to another team,” said Raptors president and GM Bryan Colangelo.
Waiters, though, is also highly thought of by the Raptors, and Yahoo Sports reported the guarantee might well have come from Colangelo and Toronto. The Raptors own the No. 8 pick in the first round.
Waiters was a score-first shooting guard at Syracuse. At 6-4, he might have to be more of a combination guard in the NBA. Coach Jim Boeheim was critical of his defensive effort and focus on occasion. But NBA teams believe in his talent and potential.
