The NBA labor talks picked up in New York Friday, with players and owners hoping to save the marquee Christmas Day games.Sides held a secret meeting earlier this week in hopes of kick starting talks to end the 148-day lockout. Commissioner David Stern told reporters the league would need about 30 days to prepare for the start of a shortened season, putting the Dec. 25 schedule at risk.Representatives for the players and owners are focusing discussions on the pending lawsuits – an antitrust lawsuit against the league by the players and a pre-emptive suit filed by the owners. With the players union disbanded, the sides can’t discuss a new collective bargaining agreement, but resolving the suits could lead to that. The union must be reformed before CBA talks can continue.
